another year, another bay to breakers. made the mistake of going straight into golden gate park where it was cold and cloudy. still, the people were in good spirits, most of them seemed to have consumed plenty of spirits, and the costumes were excellent. i particularly enjoyed the daft punk-mobile which broke down right at the end of the course and created a spontaneous dance party.
went to the PTDR last weekend. classic san francisco bizarro, complete with sketchy cheerleaders and dr. hal as emcee.
took some long exposures last night in oakland with my friend marc. was just shooting the stacked containers when the train roared through.. happy accident.
alex & ethan, originally uploaded by reidspice.
spent a weekend outside of chicago with my childhood friend ethan and his family. little alex is pretty cute and has some wicked dance moves.

spent the weekend up near ukiah at an 800 acre ranch to celebrate oliver’s final days of bachelorhood. not sure i’ve ever spent 48 hours straight with 20 guys before but it was fun, despite the testosterone overload.
my brother came to visit a few weeks ago and we snapped this picture in the marin headlands on an insanely windy day.

had a great time at the final four in san antonio. got some nice shots of the final after i realized that they’d actually let me take in my big camera & lens. great weather, nice people, and an exciting final. only downside was carolina collapsing.. oh well. things look good for next year.
peter on bass, originally uploaded by reidspice.
old friend peter d’elia was in town a couple weeks ago, visiting from berlin. it was nice to see him and play some music. jim and charlie helped out on guitar and improvised vocals. our original easter song was an instant classic.
caught max guzzling light at laszlo a couple days ago. his new beard makes it something of a religious experience.
got a chance to take some pictures of my friend pierre’s masks and sculptures this week. i need more practice shooting in controlled lighting environments but some of them still came out nicely. firing my flash remotely worked quite well, especially when mounted on a tripod. pierre’s work is very beautiful; it certainly helps to have photogenic subjects.
you can see more of his work at www.richeart.com
dr. reba’s custom mortarboard, originally uploaded by reidspice.
reba became a doctor last weekend, complete with hood and PhD and a disturbingly technical lecture on the behavior of kv7 proteins. i’m not going to pretend i understood much of the lecture but it was very impressive and interesting to learn a bit more about exactly what she’s been up to for the past few years. i actually felt a bit less nerdy after spending an hour listening to microbiology lingo sail over my head.
